About the hostel

We're Linda & Steve and we moved to Rome in 1999 with 2 cats and a Swiss Army knife to start our hostel, The Beehive. We have a courtyard garden where our guests can relax and where we host many events, a small vegetarian cafe where we serve breakfast daily as well as weekly family-style dinners and cooking classes, and a cozy lounge for reading and socializing.

We have both mixed gender dorm rooms and female only dorm rooms. We provide a small towel for use during your stay by request. Beds are made up for your arrival. Bathrooms are all shared. All beds have personal reading lights and outlets with USB ports. Guests each get a small individual locker with a key for small valuables.

The Beehive's small cafe is vegetarian and as organic as possible. We make our own homemade sourdough bread, bagels, pastries, and cakes and use organic, free-trade coffee. No buffet here, food is prepped to order. The cafe is open to guests as well as the public. IMPORTANT: Please note that we do not have full kitchen use for guests, but we do offer limited self-catering with a refrigerator, microwave, kettle, plates, glasses, and cutlery, but no stovetop cooking facilities.

While we're not a party hostel and don't have a bar, we focus more on good food, wine, and conversation. We have activities several times a week for our guests to socialize with each other, other travelers and Rome locals as well. It's up to you to decide how social (or not) you choose to be.

As environmentalists, social justice activists and vegetarians, we don't just talk the talk but extend our beliefs into our business. We use eco-friendly cleaning products, recycle, use LED lighting, recycled toilet paper, hand towels & napkins, collect clothes and toiletries to donate to the local refugee center and much more.

With 20+ years in hospitality, travel & tourism in Rome and Italy in general, Linda has a wealth of information she freely shares with guests at the front desk. For a more curated, detailed and personal experience, Linda is available for private walks and/or itinerary planning. If you want a historical tour with a licensed guide, we work with several small-group walking tour companies that we recommend and which also give our guests a discount with a promo code. We also work with companies that offer everything from food to sketching to scooter tours. For more information, check at reception during your stay.
